You Think I'm Gay?

I was going to go on a rant about how a good friend of mine recently asked me if I was gay, but my friends have heard me rant on about it for far too long now, so I'll spare them the extra rant (I'm not, in case you were wondering....). I decided to leave the title as is simply because it's so random and largely unrelated. It amuses me.

I've had another search reach my Ziggs.com profile. This one came from Brampton, ON. Not that far from where I live, actually. Someone in Bramption looked me up... and knew my middle name, too:

While I'm excited that it might mean that people might be following my blog, or perchance looking up my credentials (a publishing house, perhaps? I'm allowed to dream!), I'm also finding it all a little creepy....

Still, grin and hope for the best I say. It might actually lead to something one day.

I hope you are all well, and enjoy your day!

You are definitely getting caught up in the minutae of the internet! Get out there some more! I could get sucked right in if I wasn't careful, myself, into reading details like this...but I try not to!

Congrats on starting your new story, that sounds promising. It's a relief to write when there's something else you're waiting to publish; but the whole process is trying. It's what we need to do!

Hi Jenn,
It's always lovely to hear from you.

I think I am getting sucked in!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I was honestly losing sleep over the fitful starts and stops, worrying that I didn't have another story in me... but it seems I was worried for no reason. It's definitely good to be writing again!

Thanks again!

I suspect there are certain people on the internet who see your profile picture, decide that because you don't dress in an overtly trying-to-get-male-attention way, never talk about men romantically on your blog (which as it's about your writing, isn't really a surprise) and are involved in martial arts, you must therefore be gay.

Now, I am quite capable of evaluating why certain types of people could come to that conclusion; why they feel it is important is somewhat beyond me.

When I choose a book, it's because it is a subject that interests me, a story that sounds entertaining, or I've previous experience with the author so will hope it's about as good as their last work.

There are certain individuals who I will go out of my way to avoid their written work, but that's as far as my book-based prejudices go.

Why someone would ask another straight out about their sexual orientation eludes me completely; the only way I can see it as in any way relevant is if they are romantically interested in someone, and surely just asking them out would suffice?

People are weird.

People are weird Whqttt (did I get enough 't's that time?)! I doubt very much this friend of mine had a romantic interest in me... we've been friends a while and he's just gotten himself a new girlfriend.

I fully expect that some of the concern may be that I don't have a boyfriend... and haven't had one in a number of years. I don't really date much. And yes, I'm involved in Martial Arts... and I'm not especially girly about it either. Broken fingernails are not on the top of my concerns list when it comes to training (sorry to generalise ladies, but some of you are actually like that. You know who you are).

I'm not sure if my choice of books is involved. Plenty of girls read Fantasy and Sci Fi... don't they?

I'm sure he asked me because many others had asked him. After all, of my Kung Fu family, he is the one I see the most, so if anyone would know, it would be him, I suppose. We're also quite comfortable around each other, so he knew there would be no major repercussions.

I've been asked before this as well... I'm not really offended (I'm not easily offended), but it does have me wondering!
