I Was a Peruvian Farmer

True story. I was. Yesterday. And you can read about it on Rita's blog here.

As for the declaration that I was going to begin writing ahead of schedule. It's not happening. Pottermore.com has sucked me into a world of make-believe and I am currently trying to master the exact science and subtle art that is potion-making.

Oh, and spell-casting is horribly tricky as well.

When it works, it works well. I wish it would work more often.

Training is going very well. Wednesday nights K.C. and I have started working with the body pads (padded chest/body protectors so we can actually hit each other - getting hit still hurts, by the by. I shudder to think what it feels like with out the pad!). I'm uncoordinated and K.C. is very kindly keeping the drills simple for me. Still, it's wicked fun.

M.D. came over last night. She's in town from Saskatchewan ... or was is Saskatoon. One of those. It was lovely to see her again in any case. She's looking well and she's awesome as always.

Have you seen the Game of Thrones teaser trailer? I have. I can't wait for it to start!

On the subject of T.V. shows, there are two slated to premier soon, and I can't wait to see them. Grimm and Once Upon A Time. It's so wonderful to see faerie tales coming back into story-telling. I'm a huge fan of faerie tales.

Right, nothing else to report, so I'm going to Hogwarts now. Potions starts soon and I don't want Snape to get mad at me...

Random Stuff

Stuff is, of course, the technical term.

Good news, the flatmate's back after a successful business trip to Toronto. She arrived a little worse for wear - a feat of her own making - but otherwise satisfied. Tomorrow she starts work on a movie being filmed here in Ottawa.

You wouldn't think there are many of those, but it's a steady enough business.

In writing news, I'm now 500 words behind my target, but that's alright. I technically have today off, meaning I can easily catch up. I'll write a quick 500 and then relax for the rest of the day... possibly catch up on The Game of Thrones. What wouldn't I do for the success of George R.R. Martin?

Quite a lot, as it turns out. I'm such a prude.

There isn't much really to say. Training went well last night. I learned the first line of a single stick form, and will probably tackle the applications of the moves next week. Next weekend, it's off to Belleville for a three day Kung Fu workshop. I'm quite excited about that. The night before, it's lesson 4 of Equestrian Archery, provided everyone's schedules line up.

And that's all the news I have. A dull day to be sure. Well, I have to get writing, so here's your almost daily Forgotten English:

Supermundane:

Elevated in nature or character above what pertains to the earth or world; belonging to a region above the world. Humorously or ironically applied to what is ideal, fantastic, or chimerical. Situated above the earth. Adapted from Medieval Latin supramunda [by] Thomas Aquinas.
- Sir James Murray's New English Dictionary, 1919

Perhaps, in that supermundane region, we may be amused with seeing the fallacy of our own guesses.

Flattery of the Highest Order

Yesterday afternoon I received the loveliest email from a friend I've made via facebook. Apparently, for my birthday I shall be given a pencil drawing portrait. In the meantime, he sketched this:

with profound apologies because he feels it doesn't much look like me. I'm flattered all the same, and am very grateful.

What a great afternoon I had yesterday because of this!

That great afternoon was replaced by a great evening, as I spent it at training. Three hours of training, and the final hour was pretty intense. I'm tired and achy now, but won't complain overmuch as 1) I brought it on myself and 2) It was frikkin' awesome and this is a good tired and achy... if there can be such a thing.

For a while yesterday, I was debating on whether I should write my script now, or wait until Script Frenzy next April to start the actual writing. I'm pretty much ready to write the thing, but I've decided to wait. Next year's Script Frenzy will be my first, so I don't want to ruin it.

In other news, I am completely addicted to HBO's Game of Thrones. It's actually very close to the book (from what I remember) and very, very, very well done. Also, it has Sean Bean, so it can't really go wrong. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend it. It's television that won't rot your brain.

Right, I'm off to do nothing in particular. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Yoke-Mating

Marriage; from yoke-mate, a yoke-fellow.

Can anyone tell me what the hell a yoke-fellow is?
